'statement of faith'

So after almost 3 months of self-indulgent traveling, it actually feels pretty good to be settled back into Seattle for awhile. Of course I'm unable to sit around and relax, so I quickly committed to yoga 2-3x a week with a friend (recently broken up single females are the best workout buddies.... she uses me for distraction, I use her for motivation to work my ass off).

I'm also looking through United Way's volunteer opportunity data base, and I see one I'm interested in. However, as I'm scanning the project description, I see:

"As Vision House is a Christian organization, individuals wishing to work in direct contact with our residents must sign a statement of faith"

[screeching tires]

Statement of Faith??? I have to sign my soul over just to freaking volunteer now? I mean, I respect any religious faction that wants to help out; I even understand them wanting those that receive the help to be of a certain faith; it's their goods/effort = their prerogative. BUT their prejudiced exclusivity towards their volunteers I found extremely idiotic.

I went online to look up what exactly this 'statement of faith' entailed:

STATEMENT OF FAITH. We believe:
* The Bible is the only true written Word of God.

* Jesus led a normal life, but never sinned. Jesus took on Himself all of our sins, died on the cross and came back to life on the third day. Jesus went to heaven and is sitting on the right hand of the Father. Jesus will return to earth again in power and glory.

* They that are saved will be resurrected to eternal life and they that are lost will be resurrected to eternal damnation. (See full statement here.)

ANYWAY... What kind of bigoted morons make people sign this in order to HELP? Why do I have to believe in their narrow definition of faith? Isn't fucking compassion the same in any language/religion?

That is the most disgusting thing I've ever seen. Perhaps when I start my own charity, I'll have my own Statement of Truth. Those who believe in the lies perpetuated by institutionalized religion are not welcome. But nah, I'm not as closed-minded; I'll accept free help even from God lovers, so long as they don't try to convert me.
